Kazakhstan vs Brazil
0 - 3

Kobe, Japan, November 1, 2006 -- Brazil won their second straight match in Pool C on Wednesday, cruising past a listless Kazakhstan 3-0.

Kazakhstan, who pushed the United States to a five-setter late on Tuesday were never really in the match as the Brazilians overpowered them 25-17, 25-13, 25-16.

Brazil got into their rhythm very early, taking an 8-4 into the first technical timeout thanks to some big spikes and ineffective play from Kazakhstan.

Even from the warmup, you could tell the Brazilians were aiming to have fun and the domination continued to the second TTO and beyond. Sheilla Castro was having a field day, blasting spikes through the weak Kazak blocking.

After Kazakhstan took a timeout with the score at 20-10, they managed a minor revival, but the gap was too big.

They pulled back to within six points at 23-17, but two big spikes from Fabiana Claudino and Marianne Steinbrecher finished things off.

Kazakhstan coach Shapran Vyacheslav pulled captain Yelenda Pavlova for the second set and made other changes to his team, who put up more of a fight in the set although they had to call a timeout early on after falling behind 4-0.

But after closing to 9-8, Kazakhstan were again left behind and the Brazilians romped home thanks to more fireworks from Steinbrecher and Castro as well as some supreme blocking from Steinbrecher, Claudinho and Walewska Oliveira.

The Brazilians zoomed out to a 10-2 lead in the third set as they looked more and more comfortable and seemed to be enjoying their game more.

Kazakhstan, on the other hand, looked listless and again played without their captain in the third set.

Without Pavlova, they lacked the power to damage the Brazilians and with the entire Brazilian team on song in both defense and attack, they also lacked the means with which to win.
