China romped to a convincing three-set victory over Mexico in Pool B on Friday as they chalked up their third straight win at the FIVB Volleyball World Championship for Women in Sapporo.

After victories over Azerbaijan and Dominican Republic, the Chinese put on their best performance of the tournament so far to see off the determined but out-classed Mexicans.

China won the match 25-20, 25-10, 25-12 as Mexico suffered their third defeat in three matches.

With the FIVB’s Mexican president Dr Ruben Acosta watching from the stands, his compatriots were unable to match the Chinese in both physical presence and skills.

China took an 8-5 lead at the first time out and, though Mexico managed to scrape a few points here and there, the Chinese were never in serious trouble.

With star spiker Wang Yimei, the versatile Zou Suhong and dynamic Xu Yunli dictating terms, China controlled the majority of rallies.

Mexico would have been delighted at their ability to take 20 points off China in the first set but it was never enough to deny the reigning Olympic champions.

China raced to an 8-2 lead in the second set, despite the brave efforst of Mexican captain Bibiano Candelas and her team to limit the damage.

Her opposite skipper, Feng Kun, was controlling matters in the middle of the court for China with some expert sets for teammates Wang, Zhou and Yang Hao to put away.

Candelas was at the forefront of Mexico's attacks and got some good support from Claudia Rodriguez and Yendy Cortinas. But it was always going to be an uphill struggle against the efficient Chinese.

Song Nina popped up in the middle with a flash spike to seal the second set for China.

Mexico decided to put up a fight in the third set and limited China to an 8-6 lead at the first time-out, with Migdalel Ruiz, Rodriguez and Selena Barajas making key contributions for the Mexicans.

But that was as close as they got for the rest of the match. China pulled away rapidly and were soon 16-8 and headed for victory.

Mexico were unable to win another point until 22-9 and by that time, China were well on top. China completed formalities when Zhou hit the winning spike.
