Khartoum, Sudan, February 02, 2005 - Ghana and
host team Sudan will compete Thursday for a second round spot in the 2006 World
Championships after both had the second victory in a row in Group A day two matches
in Khartoum, Sudan. Their match Thursday in the third and final day will give
the second round ticket to the winner.
In the most exciting match of the competition, Sudan clinched a very difficult
victory over the solid emerging Uganda 3-1 (25-21, 20-25, 25-23, 27-25). Sudan
players committed many mistakes in the Services and backline defense to allow
the less experienced Ugandan team to go point by point all through the match.
Sudan Head Coach Alexander Karikov of Russia pushed some bench players who saved
the match specially Ahmed Aiman who won the prize of the MVP of the match offered
by Sudan Radio Channel the media sponsor of the competition.
In the second match of day two Ghana had an easy victory over Eritrea 3-0 (25-22,
25-17, 25-13). Although Ghana played with many bench players, they dominated the
match with the professional player in USA, Seidu Adjanaku as his side best player.
