Nigeria in camp for World Championship preparation (FIVB)

February 17, 2005 - The Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) has invited 26 female players to a camp starting on Friday in preparation for the 2006 Women’s World Championship first round tournament to be held in Cairo, Egypt from March 15-24.

The final list of 26 players was confirmed following the NVBF board meeting held on the weekend in Abuja. Six members of the squad will arrive at the camp having come from playing club Volleyball in Europe and America.

The pair of Dorothy Egbun and Ladi Jalmet are currently playing in Turkey while Ladi Iya, Joy Okpa and Elizabeth are in the USA. Esther Dusu is the sixth overseas player, based in France.

The home-based players are Marian Garuba, Venice Aya (NIS), Chinyere Onuoha (Imo) Sheila Athekame, Christy Amadi, Theresa Okoroma (Delta) and Ehis Irionwen (Edo). Patience Jalmet, Lydia Ajik, Comfort and Nenkier John are from the Plateau State team.

The remaining players attending the camp are Sola Oladapo, Patrcia Dike (Navy), Chidinma Nneochima, Mary Ibeh, Ifeoma Ochonogor, Nnena, Phoebe Ogbuji (Imo) and Anita Edem.

The players, coached by Tony Oghuma with Maasseh Garuba as his assistant, will travel straight from the camp to Cairo where they will face the hosts Egypt, Botswana and South Africa. The winner of the tournament will travel to Japan for the Final Round in 2006.
