March
3, 2005 - The technical committee of the 2006 Women's World
Championships first round tournament (African Group C) has
established the fixtures for the forthcoming qualifying
tournament to be hosted by Mauritius from April 22-24.
The tournament, which will provide the winner with a ticket to
the 2006 World Championships in Japan, will kick off with an
exciting clash between Uganda and Tunisia on April 22, 15:00
(local time). All matches will be played at the Pandit Sahadeo
Stadium in Vacoas. The host team will also be in action on the
opening day at 19:30 against Cameroon in what should be a
thrilling match.
The second day of competition will see Mauritius play the hot
favorite Tunisia at 19:30, which will likely determine the team
to advance to the final round in Japan next year. Earlier,
Uganda will face the Cameroon squad at 15:00. And the last day
of competition will be played on Sunday, April 24 with Mauritius
playing Uganda at 14:30 and Tunisia taking on Cameroon in what
could be a final at 18:30.
The Mauritius team is currently training three times a week and
the national coach, Mario Lepois, is waiting on one French based
player, Magalie Therèse, and an Australian based player, Martine
Bistoquet to complete his squad. Both form part of the team that
won bronze at the last Indian Island Ocean Games in 2003.
