Bangalore,
India, April 19, 2005 - The Indian men’s Volleyball
team, who are preparing for a 2006 Men’s World
Championship second round tournament (Asia Pool E) to be
held in Chennai from June 24-26, will have a new coach
from Brazil to help them in their endeavour, according
to Indian media.
Chief Coach G E Sridharan told United News of India that
''Ivo De Olivera is expected to take charge within a
week once the All India Volleyball Federation (AIVF)
have completed all the formalities, including signing of
contract.'' Olivera is expected to take over the reins
from Hrislo Iliero of Bulgaria, who had been guiding the
team for over two years.
Sridharan said ''there is nothing wrong in having a
foreign coach. The appointment has come at the most
appropriate time since the team is preparing for the
World Championships, scheduled to be held in Chennai in
June.''
