Mar del Plata, Argentina, May 5, 2005 – Argentina
coach Fabián Armoa was true to his word when he named an
inexperienced squad for the 2006 Men’s World
Championship first round tournament (South America Pool
A) which starts in Mar del Plata on Friday.
Armoa said at the start of the year that a total of 30
players will rotate during the year considering
Argentina’s hectic schedule which includes the 2006
World Championships, 2005 World League and the South
American Championships. Accordingly he has named only
two players who competed in the 2004 Olympics – the
experienced libero Pablo Meana and Pablo Peralta – while
only five will also play in the 2005 World League.
That’s not to say Armoa is taking the tournament lightly
as the winner of the three-team tournament – the other
teams being Paraguay and Uruguay – will book an
automatic spot in the final round in Japan. Pic: The versatile Pablo Meana (17) watches libero

Tunisia at the 2004 Olympics With only one game per day, Argentina will open the
tournament playing Uruguay at 21:00 (local time).
Meanwhile, this week also sees Romania, Belgium, Norway
and Belarus playing off in Romania for one ticket
through to the second round in a 2006 Men’s World
Championship first round tournament (Europe Pool C) in
Tulcea, Romania.
The opening day on Friday features matches between
Belgium and Belarus at 16:00 (local time) followed by
Romania playing Norway at 18:30 (local time).
