Belarus to assist Azerbaijan in World Championship preparation (FIVB)

May 16, 2005 – The Azerbaijan national women’s side has called on the help of their Belarus counterparts to play four friendly matches ahead of what promises to be a testing 2006 Women’s World Championship second round tournament – Europe Pool D, which features Romania, Spain and Belgium and will be held in the Baku Sport Complex from May 27-29.

Azerbaijan, ranked 32 equal in the world, will play the 56 equal ranked Belarusians in four matches on May 17-18 in the Quba Olympic Complex, and on May 22-23 in the Baku Sport Complex.

The matches will also be ideal preparation for Belarus who finished second behind Slovakia in a 2006 Women’s World Championship first round tournament in Portugal earlier in May and will head to Greece to play the hosts, Ukraine and France in the second round from June 10-12.

The top two teams in the second round tournament in Azerbaijan will advance to the third round.
