Karachi, Pakistan, May 17, 2005 – Kazakhstan were humbled by Pakistan 4-1 in a five-match friendly series, which was acting as preparation for a 2006 Men’s World Championship second round tournament – Europe Pool D, which Kazakhstan will be hosting from June 17-19.

The superb blocking and spiking by skipper Irfan Nawaz, Zaheer Abbas, Naseer Ahmed and Zafar Iqbal guided Pakistan to a thrilling straight sets win in the fifth and final test to wrap up the series on Tuesday at the KPT Sports Complex.

Pakistan had registered successive wins in the first three matches to take the series. They beat the tourists in the first match at Islamabad, second at Wah and third at Peshawar by identical margins of 3-0.

For Kazakhstan, their quartet of strikers Andreyev Yevgenly (captain), Chernenko, Imangaliyev and Rubtsov Anton demonstrated superb picking and attacking skills at the net however, the loopholes in their defence let them down particularly when they were leading.

"It was an excellent series and we enjoyed playing in Pakistan," Kazakhstan coach Patrakov Andrey remarked and added that their players gained a great deal of experience in the series, which would definitely pay them dividends in the forthcoming 2006 World Championships. “We are actually in a team rebuilding process. We are here testing every player against the stronger Pakistan side.”
