San Jose, Costa Rica, May 20, 2005 - The head coaches of the four men’s teams entered into the first round Norceca Pool C of the 2006 Men’s World Championship stated their opinions before the start of the competition where two tickets to the next phase are up for grabs.

The event begins on Friday with Nicaragua facing Honduras at 5pm (local time) and Costa Rica entertaining Guatemala at 7pm (local time).

Here is what the coaches said going into the competition:

Alberto Travieso, Costa Rica: “I think we have worked very hard during the past few months in order to have a competitive team and assure ourselves of one of the two spaces in the second round. Looking at the scenario, we can reach our goal. I have a great deal of respect for all the teams and I know there are no easy matches in this tournament.”

Alvinzi Pelaez, Guatemala: “We are very thrilled with the chance to participate in this important tournament. Our goal is to try to qualify to the next round. Costa Rica, due to the fact they are the local team, are the toughest opponent, but we are going to work hard.”

Rony Martinez, Honduras: “I think, like the other coaches who are in this tournament, the objective is to take one of the two berths available for the next phase. We are focused on that and will be going for it.”

Reynaldo Cerda, Nicaragua: “We know the level of our region and we are going to play hard looking to move into the next phase in Cuba or Puerto Rico.”

The event will be played in a round-robin format. The team who finishes in first place will advance to the second round in Cuba, while the team who finishes in second place will go to Puerto Rico.
