Germany beat Czech Republic in World Championship warm up (FIVB)

Germany, May 23, 2005. World number 24 Germany will enter the 2006 Men's World Championships second round tournament - Europe Pool H in Tampere, Finland starting on Friday with their confidence sky high after collecting two tiebreak victories over world number 25 and fellow second round competitors the Czech Republic.

Winning the first match in the East German city of Zwickau 15-8 in the tiebreak set, the Germans showed incredible tenacity in the second match in Dessau, Germany to fight back from 0-2 down. Although the Czech Republic, who will host the Ukraine, Denmark and first round winner's England in Opava in a second round tournament - Europe Pool F also starting on Friday, took an early lead in the tiebreak set (1-5), the Germans stayed close (9-9), turning the tables to advance 12-11. The first matchpoint, however, was for the Czechs (13-14). Another two matchpoints followed for Germany (14-15, 15-16) who finally managed to close the match with a block by Siebeck/Hübner (18-16).

"It was good to have played five sets in each match because that gave our coach the possibility to try out many variations", explained German team player Stefan Hübner, "Our team has become much more stable overall thanks to the players' experiences in international leagues as well as in the Indesit European Champions' League. We're going to Finland in order to win all three matches."
