03/16/2005
Bridgetown, Barbados – June 15, 2005 – All of the men’s
teams taking part in the 2006 Men’s World Championship
first round tournament - Norceca Group A expressed
supreme confidence in their chances of winning the
competition just hours before the action serves off at
the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex on Wednesday.
Trainer of the Jamaican team, Dervent Clarke boldly
pointed to their second placing to hosts Barbados in
last year’s Caribbean Cup finals and he indicated that
they have business to settle with Barbados. With an
addition of two new players to the established 10 that
had captured the silver last year, Jamaica have
signalled that they intend to overthrow Barbados. Pic(Left to right): Shannon Emslie, Ludger Niles,

teams’ plans and expectations for the World Championship
Qualifier in Bridgetown, Barbados
Shannon Emslie who is the coach of the Cayman Islands
indicated that his country was recovering from the
setbacks of a category five hurricane last September and
they have set various goals for their athletes to
continue the rebirth of sports in their country. Part of
the Caymans’ goal is to emerge top of the group.
Sabinah Mason, the Manager of the British Virgin Islands,
stated that the Qualifier was a learning experience for
her players. But, they were not intimidated by being in
Barbados or playing Barbados who had won the Caribbean
Cup for a record nine times.
Barbados’ highly successful coach Ludger Niles declared
that the Barbadian public was accustomed to nothing but
the best from his team and they had no intentions of
disappointing the fans. Niles boldly stated that
Barbados would be the team advancing to the next round.
