Final Round of the 2006 Men’s World Championship after
finishing the second round tournament in Tehran - Asia

After beating Australia and Uzbekistan on days one and
two respectively, there was a party atmosphere in the
Azadi Volleyball Hall on the final day as more 3,500
local fans cheered on their heroes as they marched to a
spot in the Final Round.
Obviously Iran’s motivation against Qatar was very high,
because by winning just one set they would be packing
their suitcases to Japan. Despite the hot weather, Azadi
Volleyball Hall was packed full of Volleyball lovers,
who were cheering the home team by clapping and blowing
horns.
And Iran put in a wonderful display to finish the
tournament. Serving, spiking and defence were all in
order as Iran completely outplayed a useful Qatar side.
When the match came to an end and Iran’s World
Championship spot was sealed, spectators cried and
cheered as the players did a lap of honour with the Iran
national flag. Mothers and fathers, boys and girls were
cheering and shouting "players, we are thankful".
In the earlier match, Australia’s straight sets win over
Uzbekistan puts them into the playoff next weekend in
India while Qater finished third with a 2-1 record and
Uzbekistan failed to win a match.
