China beat India for Final Round ticket (FIVB)

India, June 26, 2005 – World number 15 China claimed the
third of five Asian men's tickets into the Final Round
of the 2006 World Championship after finishing their
second round tournament - Asia Pool E unbeaten following
their 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-21) win over India on
Sunday. The hosts finished second to enter a playoff
with Australia and Korea for two more Final Round
tickets.
It caps an impressive performance from China, who
finished 13th in the 2002 World Championships in
Argentina and had earlier beaten Indonesia 25-16, 25-14,
25-17 on Saturday and world number 37 Thailand 25-19,
25-15, 25-21 on Friday in this tournament, and they join
Kazakhstan and Iran as the three Asian winners of
tickets to the Final Round to date.

India, who are ranked 26th in the world, now host a
three-team play off featuring Australia (22 in the
world) and Korea (ranked 10th in the world) for two more
spots in the Final Round, which will be played in Japan
next year.
Seven of the 24 men’s Final Round vacancies are now
confirmed with Brazil - as defending champions - and
Japan - as hosts – having an automatic spot, while Egypt,
Kazakhstan, Iran and Argentina all won their respective
tournaments.
The play off for the final two Asian tickets begins on
July 1 in Chennai.
