2006 World Championships
Korea make great start in play off with victory over Australia (FIVB)
07/01/2005
Chennai,
India, July 1, 2005 – Play off favourites Korea suffered
a few scares along the way but eventually beat a tough
Australian side 3-1 (25-22, 27-29, 25-16, 27-25) on the
opening day of the 2006 Men’s World Championship playoff
in Asia.
With one match per day in the three-day tournament in
Chennai, the win puts Korea in an excellent position to
grab one of the two Final Round tickets on offer in this
tournament.
The other team in the three-team playoff, India,- play
their opening match on Saturday against Australia.
Korea (10th), India (26th) and Australia (22nd) were all
runner’s up in their respective second round tournaments
played earlier this month, where Kazakhstan, China and
Iran confirmed their places in the finals.
The two top sides in the tournament will advance to the
Final Round in Japan, while the third side can pack
their bags, knowing their World Championship campaign is
over.
