2006 World Championships
Dom Republic seal final round spot (FIVB)
08/26/2005
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, August 26, 2005 – Three successive victories at the 2006 Women’s World Championship second round tournament (NORCECA E) was enough for the Dominican Republic to book themselves a spot in the final round on Friday following their 3-0 (25-10, 25-10, 25-15) win over Jamaica.

The Dominicans sit on top of the five-team table with a 3-0 win-loss record with Cuba, who beat Costa Rica 3-0 (25-7, 25-12, 25-20) on Friday, in second place with a 2-0 record and Guatemala(1-1) in third.

The top three finishers in the tournament will advance to the final round of the 2006 World Championships as members of the NORCECA zone and with one match remaining - against Cuba on Sunday – the Dominican Republic can not finish worse than third.

Cuba must beat either Guatemala on Saturday or the Dominican Republic to seal their spot while the third ticket is open to any of Guatemala, Jamaica (0-3) and Costa Rica (0-2).

USA, Puerto Rico and Mexico secured the first three NORCECA slots for the World Championships at the “NORCECA D” World Championship second round tournament in Puerto Rico earlier this month.
