Cuba, Dom Republic and Costa Rica complete final round line up (FIVB)

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, August 28, 2005 –
With Cuba and the Dominican Republic having already
booked their tickets on Saturday and Friday respectively
Costa Rica claimed the third and last NORCECA final
round spot for the 2006 Women’s World Championship after
finishing third at the second round tournament (NORCECA
E) on Sunday.
The two matches on the final day saw Costa Rica beat
Guatemala 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-19) to move into third
with a 2-2 win-loss record before Cuba beat Dominican
Republic 3-0 (29-27, 25-19, 25-18) to win the tournament
as the only unbeaten side. Guatemala (1-3) and Jamaica
(0-4) finished fourth and fifth respectively.
The top three finishers in the tournament advanced to
the final round of the 2006 World Championships as
members of the NORCECA zone.
USA, Puerto Rico and Mexico secured the first three
NORCECA slots for the World Championships at the
“NORCECA D” World Championship second round tournament
in Puerto Rico earlier this month.
The 24-team final round for the 2006 Women’s World
Championship is now complete with Japan (hosts), Italy (defending
champions), Egypt, Kenya, Cameroon, Brazil, Peru, Korea,
Kazakhstan, China, Chinese Taipei, Germany, Serbia &
Montenegro, Azerbaijan, Russia, The Netherlands, Turkey
and Poland having already advanced.
