Tokyo, March 14, 2006: A delegation from the Volleyball Federation of
Russia will visit Sendai this week for a brief World Championships inspection tour.
The Federation's General Director, Stanislav Shevchenko, will be
accompanied by the head coach of the men's team, Zoran Gajic, on the two-day trip.
The men's team will play Serbia and Montenegro, Korea, Canada, Tunisia and
Kazakhstan in Pool D at Sendai City Gymnasium, and the delegation from
Russia will visit the competition hall, training halls and the team hotel
during a busy schedule on Friday and Saturday.
The last time the World Championships were held in Japan, in 1998, Gajic
coached Yugoslavia to the silver medal, losing 3-0 to Italy in the final.
The former Soviet Union won the last of their six men's world crowns in
1982, and Russia finished second behind Brazil at the 2002 Worlds in Argentina.
