Yaounde, Cameroon, September 9, 2006: The Cameroon women's team have embarked on the most important stage of their preparations for the World Championships.
Under head coach Peter Nonnenbroich, who has been designated by the FIVB, the team entered a training camp in the French city of Hagetmau until the end of September.
The team includes all the Europe-based professional players led by Ruth Diboue, who plays for the Hainaut club. The camp will include some friendly matches against French clubs before the players leave for China to begin their last stage of preparation.
They will stay in China for around one month from September 29 and then head for Japan, where they will open their Pool C campaign against the Netherlands in Kobe on October 31. The other four teams in the group are gold medal favourites Brazil, Kazakhstan, Puerto Rico and USA.
Cameroon started their preparations at the beginning of August and then held their first camp outside Cameroon in Berlin, Germany, from August 12-31.
After shocking the red-hot favourites Tunisia in a qualifying competition in Mauritius to book their ticket to Japan, Cameroon will be one of three African teams in the women's championship, along with Kenya and Egypt.
