Tokyo, October 11, 2006: The Peace Ceremony at Hiroshima during the 2006 FIVB World Championships has been set for Thursday, November 23.
The ceremony will take place in the Peace Memorial Park on a national holiday, Labour Day, starting at 3pm and lasting 30 minutes.
The FIVB President, Dr. Ruben Acosta, will present a wreath to the City of Hiroshima on behalf of the volleyball world during a ceremony calling for world peace.
Hiroshima was the victim of the first atomic bombing in history, on August 6, 1945, and hundreds of thousands of people from Japan and around the world visit the city each year.
As well as Dr. Acosta, the volleyball family will be represented by Japan Volleyball Association President Masao Tachiki, members of the World Championships Control Committee, referees, the eight teams competing in the second round of the menfs competition at Hiroshima, and representatives of the Hiroshima Volleyball Association.
The eight teams will arrive in Hiroshima the same day, with four coming from Fukuoka and four from Nagano.
The second round will start two days later, on November 25.
