Tokyo, October 12, 2006: Argentina’s Japan-bound men’s team will say farewell to their fans after two friendly matches against reigning world champions Brazil.
The light blue and whites will take on their fierce South American rivals on October 12 and October 13 at the famous Luna Park Stadium in Buenos Aires, with both matches being shown live on ESPN+.
They will be the last two home matches for Argentina this year after hosting Spain, Puerto Rico, Croatia, USA, Venezuela and Tunisia in friendly matches, and Brazil, Finland and Portugal in the World League.
Argentina won seven straight matches in World League Pool B to finish second behind unbeaten Brazil with a 7-5 win-loss record, and this time they will be aiming for victory against Bernardo Rezende’s reigning world champions.
On November 5, Argentina will travel to Australia for two friendly matches with the Aussies and one against Canada, before the South Americans head for Japan for the start of the World Championships on November 17. There is a time difference of 13 hours between Argentina and Japan, so a stop-over in Australia will help bridge the gap.
Argentina, coached by Jon Uriarte, will play Japan, Poland, China, Egypt and Puerto Rico in Pool A at Saitama Super Arena, and are favoured to finish in the top four and advance to the second round.
Their minimum target is to be among the best eight teams.
