Tokyo, October 18, 2006: FIVB President Dr. Ruben Acosta arrived at Tokyo Narita Airport from Geneva on Wednesday morning local time -- and immediately felt the excitement of the upcoming FIVB World Championships.
Dr. Acosta and his wife, Malu, were greeted by Japanese volleyball officials at the country's busiest international airport, which was decorated with World Championships banners and posters as part of the organizing committee’s promotional campaign.
It is the first time the Japan Volleyball Association has had the chance to promote a major event in such a way at Japanese airports, and both Tokyo Haneda and Kansai International Airport at Osaka will also display World Championships materials.
Dr and Mrs Acosta were escorted to the Tokyo Prince Hotel Park Tower, where they will oversee the final preparations for the 30th FIVB World Congress. Mrs Acosta is the Congress Coordinator, and the event will run from October 23-25.
The World Championships for women will start on October 31, and the five-week volleyball feast will end with the men’s final on December 3.
